Light

Highlight Verses:

📖 1 John 1:5 – This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.

💡 Why Light?

From the very first page of the Bible, light breaks into the darkness. Before the stars, before the sun, God spoke: “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3–4). Ever since, light has carried deep meaning throughout Scripture, a picture of life, guidance, hope, and God’s presence.

Light is not only something God creates, it’s something God is. “God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). It reveals truth, exposes hidden things, and brings warmth where there was coldness.

We know this in our own lives too. Light means safety when we’re afraid, clarity when we’re uncertain, and comfort when we’re lost. The Bible uses this same imagery to show that God is the One who meets us in darkness and leads us into life.

When Jesus declares, “I am the Light of the world” (John 8:12), he stands in this rich biblical story. To understand light in Scripture is to see more clearly who God is, and what it means to walk in God’s light, to be guided by it, and to reflect it into the world.

🪔 Final Reflection

Light in Scripture is never just decoration. It is life, guidance, presence, promise, glory. From the first words of creation to the last pages of Revelation, light tells us who God is: the One who sees, who leads, who saves, and who shines forever.

Jesus is the Light that darkness cannot overcome. And when he calls us “the light of the world,” he draws us into his own mission, to reflect God’s goodness in a world that still knows shadows.

The challenge and the invitation are the same: to live as children of light, carrying hope where there is despair, truth where there is confusion, and love where there is fear.

🪞 Pause and Reflect

This week, take a quiet moment each evening. Switch off all the lights, sit in the dark for a minute, then light a candle. As the flame flickers, pray that Christ’s light would shine in your heart and through your life. Notice how even the smallest flame drives away the darkness, and remember that his light in you can do the same in the world.

🙏 Prayer

Lord Jesus, Light of the World,
you shone at creation,
you led your people through the wilderness,
you broke into our darkness with the dawn of salvation.

Shine in us today.
Drive away fear and despair.
Guide our steps when the path is unclear.
Fill us with your light so that we may reflect it to others,
not our own brightness, but yours.

Until the day when night is no more,
and your glory fills all in all,
keep us walking as children of light.
Amen.
