👳 Theme: Prophets

Highlight Verse:

📖 Micah 6:8 — He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

This week, we’re exploring the prophets, men and women, who spoke God’s truth when the world around them had lost its way. They weren’t fortune-tellers predicting random futures. They were covenant messengers, calling kings and commoners back to justice, mercy, and worship of the living God.

👳 Who Were the Prophets?

The Hebrew word navi means ‘one who is called.’ Prophets didn’t sign up for the role, many tried to run from it, but God gave them visions, words, and sometimes strange symbolic acts to wake people up. They spoke into Israel’s darkest hours: times of idolatry, injustice, and exile.

📣 Why They Matter

• They reminded Israel that worship without justice was empty.
• They defended the poor and marginalised.
• They warned kings when power corrupted.
• They offered hope of restoration when all seemed lost.
• They showed that courage means obeying God, even when it costs you everything.

The prophets remind us that God’s voice is not locked in the past. It still calls us today, into justice, mercy, and humble faithfulness.

📖 Seven Days with the Prophets

Each day, pause over a snapshot from a prophet’s life. Read the passage, sit with the reflection, and notice where their courage still speaks to your own journey.

Day 1 – Jonah: The Reluctant Messenger

📖 Read Jonah 1:1–3; 3:1–5
Jonah runs from his mission, but even Nineveh repents when God gives him a second chance.
💭 Reflection: How do you respond when God asks you to love those you’d rather avoid?

Day 2 – Jeremiah: The Weeping Prophet

📖 Read Jeremiah 1:4–10
Called while still young, Jeremiah feels inadequate. God reassures him: “Do not be afraid—for I am with you.”
💭 Reflection: In your moments of fear or doubt, how have you known God’s presence?

Day 3 – Ezekiel: Hope in Exile

📖 Read Ezekiel 37:1–14
Among the dry bones of exile, God breathes life again. Ezekiel learns that God’s Spirit can revive even what seems beyond saving.

Day 4 – Micah: Justice and Mercy

Micah sums up faith in three words: justice, mercy, humility. His message cuts through religious performance to the heart of true discipleship.

Day 5 – Amos: A Voice for the Marginalised

Amos, a shepherd and outsider, speaks fiercely against exploitation and hypocrisy: “Let justice roll down like waters.”

Day 6 – Anna: The Faithful Witness

📖 Read Luke 2:36–38
Anna, the elderly prophet in the temple, recognises the infant Jesus as the fulfilment of God’s promise. Her years of prayer turn to praise.
💭 Reflection: Where have you seen God’s light break through after a long season of waiting?

Day 7 – Philip’s Daughters: Carriers of the Spirit

📖 Read Acts 21:8–9
Four unnamed daughters of Philip are described as prophets, signs of God’s Spirit poured out on all people. Their quiet witness reminds us that prophecy is not about position but participation in God’s ongoing work.

📜 Final Reflection

The prophets remind us that faith is not passive belief but active courage. They stood against corruption, comforted the broken, and spoke truth when silence was easier. Their voices still echo, calling us to live justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.

Through women and men who dared to speak light into darkness.
Give us their courage to see truth and name it,
Their tenderness to bring comfort where there is pain,
And their hope to keep believing that Your light will not fail.
