☁️ Theme: Recognising God’s Presence

Highlight Verses:

📖 Psalm 139:7–10 – “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?”

🔍 What Does It Mean, Recognising God’s Presence?

So often we try to be “good Christians,” but what does that really look like?

Jesus says we will be known by our fruit — and that fruit flows from knowing and imitating the Teacher.

To imitate God, we must know God deeply, and that means slowing down enough to notice God’s presence in our daily lives.

Just like Moses, who spoke to God as with a friend and was shown God’s very character (Exodus 34:6–7), we are invited to live in attentive relationship, recognising where God is moving in, around, and through us.

📚 Why This Theme Matters

  • Spiritual growth begins with awareness — before change, before obedience, before insight.
  • Presence is not something we create; it’s something we notice.
  • Learning to see where God is begins with reflecting on where we’ve been.
  • The journey of faith is not just about doing more but about being awake.

🧭 What You’ll Discover This Week

Each day introduces a rhythm from a spiritual practice called the Examen — a gentle, honest habit of prayerful reflection.

  1. God Is Present – There’s nowhere we can go beyond grace
  2. Gratitude – Every day holds light if we know how to look
  3. Reviewing the Day – Looking back with mercy
  4. Naming Emotions – What we feel can point us to what matters
  5. Asking Forgiveness – Letting go of what holds us back
  6. Inviting God Forward – Trusting God with tomorrow
  7. Living Awake – Becoming a person of presence

💬 This Week’s Reflection

We don’t often stop to ask: “Where was God today?”

But this practice helps us become more rooted, more open, more compassionate — not by trying harder, but by noticing better.

The goal is not perfection — it’s awareness.

🌿 Bonus: Recognising God’s Presence through the Examen?

The Examen is a simple five-step reflection developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola.
It helps us become more aware of God’s presence, our own inner life, and the moments that shape our day.

5 Movements of the Examen:

  1. Presence – Remember that God is with you
  2. Gratitude – Name something you’re thankful for
  3. Review – Walk through your day slowly in your mind
  4. Respond – Confess, give thanks, or ask
  5. Look Ahead – Ask God to walk with you into tomorrow

Scripture is rich and layered. Each week we focus on four different ways of learning: through people, patterns, books, and symbols. These aren’t just categories — they’re ways of seeing how God moves. Whether it’s through a person’s story, a theme that repeats, a book of the Bible, or a powerful symbol, each one helps us grow in daily understanding.

Meet people whose lives teach us about God’s character and grace.
